Annual Blessing of the Animals
Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
Sunday, October 6

Last weekend, we had a wonderful celebration of the Feast of St. Francis with our Blessing of the Animals. It was heartwarming to see 27 dogs and 3 cats (who seemed surprisingly calm) gathered for this special occasion. St. Francis reminds us of the beauty of all creation, and it was a joy to witness this love for our animal friends.

Once again, the Plainview Old-Bethpage community gathered for the 9/11 Interfaith Community Service at our beloved St. Pius X Cathedral. It was a deeply moving experience. We were joined by leaders from various religious groups, guiding us through prayers and reflections. A heartfelt thanks to First Counselor Jody Williams of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for his inspiring speech on unity, peace, and harmony. Special recognition also goes to the talented JFK High School mixed choir and our own Caryn Yakacki, along with her father John Yakacki, for their outstanding musical contributions. A special shout out to our STPX Youth group and our dedicated parish event coordinator, Claudia Stewart, for their significant role in making this service a success.

Our parish celebration of last Monday’s Feast of Christmas was certainly a grand one! Thank you to our Liturgy Planning team who guided and planned our efforts. Our Art and Environment Committee members did an extraordinary job in transforming both the Gym and the Church from Advent to Christmas in the final days of Advent. Thank you to Jose Pin Amen – our facility manager and his helpers and Sal Spano and Claudia Stewart– our environmental coordinators along with Debbie Mazzola, Virginia Wildemann, Lucille Walsh, Josefina Pena, Jodie Friedman, Judy Denis and Loretta Dressler, members of the KofC and STPX Youth Group for all of their work during these two seasons.

Thank you to our FFP Coordinators, Parish Staff, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters, Ushers, Altar Society, Sacristans and Altar Servers for their dedicated service at our Christmas liturgies. A number of them attended one Mass with their families and then returned to a later Mass to serve in their particular ministry.

Thank you to Our Musicians and Cantors Caryn Yakacki and her parents John and Robin Yakacki, Veronica Nyugen who inspired us and led us in prayer. Many of them also did double duty so that our Christmas Masses would have appropriate leaders of music.

And thank you to you, our faithful parishioners, for your hospitality in welcoming the additional visitors and dealing with our limited parking resources at Christmas. We had two simultaneous Masses at 3:30pm on Christmas Eve. I am grateful for your planning ahead and working within our physical limitations. We began our celebration of the season of Christmas very well. I also want to thank each one of you, the members of our STPX parish family, for your continued support of our many, many parish activities.

I am very grateful to my brother Priest, Fr. Chux and Brother Deacon John for assisting me in celebration of the Advent and Christmas Liturgies.

I want to thank you for your faithful financial support. Not only were you very generous in your Christmas offerings, but you are also very faithful in your weekly support of the parish through your regular Sunday offerings and your pledges to the Diocesan Catholic Ministries Appeal. Without your continued support, we could not provide all of the activities and programs that make us such an alive and active parish community.

Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for the volunteer services provided by many of you. Our parish thrives because of your time, dedication, and talents. Your contributions to our liturgies, spiritual ministries, social functions, and religious activities are invaluable.

Rest in Peace Msgr. Domenick T. Graziadio

Monsignor Domenick T. Graziadio, a beloved figure in the community, passed away on November 13, 2023. His peaceful journey to the eternal embrace of the Lord was communicated to me by Dr. Reinaldo Gutierrez, the family friend and his doctor.

While I did not have the privilege of personally knowing Msgr. Dom, as our paths never crossed in shared service or residence, I became aware of his deep connection to our cherished St. Pius X parish. A few months ago, he reached out to me, seeking permission to have his final Mass of Resurrection celebrated at our beloved St. Pius X. After dedicating 12 years of his life to this parish, he had developed a profound affection for it, a sentiment that mirrored the place where he had also laid his beloved mother to rest. I assured him that I would handle all the necessary arrangements, and we remained in communication throughout this process. In fact, we had our last conversation just last Wednesday, November 8th. Msgr. Dom's unwavering strength and his preparedness in facing the inevitable were evident during our discussion.

Monsignor Dom was a remarkable and compassionate servant of the Lord, extending his benevolence to countless families and individuals, helping them draw nearer to Jesus. His gift of eloquence shone brightly in his homilies, where he skillfully bridged the Divine Word with the challenges of the contemporary world. Even during his retirement, he continued to inspire us with his wisdom.

In gratitude for his dedicated service to our parish, upon his retirement, St. Pius X presented Monsignor Dom with a hand-carved bench, bearing his signature sign-off: "You have the unique love of this shepherd." He was indeed our shepherd, guiding us with love and compassion. As a parish family, we offer our heartfelt appreciation for his enduring contributions and the love he infused into our community.

May the Good Shepherd, whom he faithfully served, now reward him for his unique role in His vineyard. Let us remember and honor the legacy of Monsignor Domenick T. Graziadio as he finds eternal rest in the embrace of the Lord.

Rest in Peace Msgr. Domenick T. Graziadio

Funeral Mass
Monday, November 20, 2023 @ 11:00am

May He Rest in Peace.

SCAM ALERT

Parishioners have been receiving emails and texts from scammers posing as Fr. Valentine and Fr. Chux, Deacon John and the other parish staff members asking for help and trying to get money and gift cards.

Do not believe these requests or reply to any of the communications. Our priests and staff would not and never have contacted parishioners for help in such a manner.
Your concern for our priests and the staff, is appreciated.
